ORANGE Digital Systems and OuiPay Payroll Services have worked together to develop a sophisticated, yet easy to use module that handles all aspects of Quebec’s CARRA pension. This tool manages CARRA’s inherent complex employment conditions and keeps track of multiple jobs and their individual pension details. This new EMPulse feature enables OuiPay to automate the payroll’s CARRA premium calculations, provide monthly remitting reports, as well as the complete annual employer CARRA declaration. As a result, the company is now processing the payroll for a significant number of private schools in Montreal, whose teachers receive a pension from CARRA.

May 2006
Montreal, QC, May 19, 2006 – ORANGE Digital Systems and Praeneste Technologies have joined forces to provide mid-sized construction and real estate management companies in Canada with an integrated accounting, billing, costing, payroll, and HR system.
The two companies are aiming to fill a gap in the industrial contractor and specialized entrepreneur segments with a comprehensive construction management solution that delivers a full range of accounting features and deep payroll functionality at the same time.
“You will often find that software vendors excel at solving either the accounting part or the payroll part of the problem, but not both”, says Bernard Landry of Praeneste Technologies.
In addition to traditional accounting features to manage payables, receivables, purchase orders, and the general ledger, mid-sized construction firms often require industry-specific functionality that includes equipment management, job costs, sub-contracts, inter-company billing, and progress billing. Praeneste handles this part of the equation with its SPACE solution.
Construction companies also need to maintain an accurate picture of their labour costs by keeping tabs on accruals, deductions, benefits and other pay items for each employee, department, cost centre or project. With government regulations such as Quebec’s CCQ, calculating pay rates and premiums is often a complex and lengthy affair. This is where ORANGE Digital Systems, with nearly twenty years of Canadian payroll expertise, comes in.
ORANGE Digital’s EMPulse Series has CCQ rates and deductions built-in and allows users to define an unlimited number of pay items and rate tables so that construction payrolls can be automatically produced within minutes. It also allows companies to develop a complete and accurate picture of their labour costs by providing the ability to track time against multiple user-defined costing parameters including job, trade code, project, and cost center.
The interface with SPACE’s GL module allows both direct costs and burdens to be allocated to projects seamlessly. The EMPulse Series HR module takes the system one step further by allowing companies to track and manage employee skills and competencies, training, team composition, company assets, accidents and grievances.
According to ORANGE Digital Systems president, Nir Ben David, “No other solution on the market delivers the same level of flexibility and functionality. For the fist time, mid-sized Canadian construction companies will be able to get a system that meets all of their requirements.”
“Another key strength of this [ORANGE-Praeneste] alliance is our combined commitment to product excellence and personalized after-sales service”, says Ben David. “Our clients’ ongoing satisfaction has always been of paramount importance. That’s why we back all of our products with comprehensive training and an open-ended support policy that is unparalleled in this industry.”
This customer-centric philosophy has worked well for the two firms, who already have several successful joint projects under their belts, including a multi-company construction firm with 1300 employees and a payroll management solution for Groupe Lépine, one of Canada’s top ten residential real estate development companies.
Founded in 1990, Praeneste Technologies offers technologically-advanced and innovative computerized solutions tailored to the specific needs of the real estate and construction industries. Their SPACE software solution includes Space-Location for those who rent spaces and Space-Property for companies that own and/or manage properties. Their lease management system validates both the financial data and legal obligations of companies managing numerous leases whether as owner, lessee or property manager. SPACE software also includes Space-Construction, an application developed for industrial and general contractors. It allows for the full management of jobs in order to control their costs and revenue. The system is endowed with sub-contract and purchase order modules, which keep track of all the jobs’ commitments. It also includes a progress-billing module for the invoicing of customers.
Both construction and real estate systems are fully integrated into a powerful multi-company financial system. The company’s all-encompassing solutions include consulting, testing, archiving and the updating of standards.
